Farm Bag Fundraiser

Having recently raised over $940,000 and collected almost 65, 000 pounds of food, Valley First's Feed the Valley program will continue to increase efforts in raising awareness through partnerships such as Farm Bag fundraiser.   That’s why we're excited to partner with the Farm Bag Fundraiser, supporting local families with access to healthy, nutritious and fresh produce.

The Farm Bag Fundraiser is an innovative program aimed at schools and community-based organizations that enables fundraising for community and sustainable projects, through the sale of locally-grown produce.

The Farm Bag Program has three main goals:

Promote healthy eating by bringing affordable food to families
Help schools and community organizations
Support local farmers with fair wages and an increased local market

The 2014-15 Fundraiser program had another successful season bringing quality fresh local produce to families and schools in the Okanagan-Similkameen region. Over 500 participants (mostly families) took part with 50,000 lbs of produce sold, while raising over $14K for their needs at the same time.  In 2015-16, the goal is to expand to reach 600 clients in the Similkameen and Okanagan region.

The Farm Bag Fundraiser program is currently offered in the South & Central Okanagan. Register your group or family to participate in the 2015-16 Farm Bag Fundraiser.

The idea is simple—customers pay in advance to collect a bag of fresh produce from a designated location once a month. The sale of each bag nets a profit for the fundraising body, with the intention that it be used towards a community project. Farmers who supply to the program benefit from advance and flexible sales in addition to receiving a higher than average return for their produce. The five-month season, which runs from September to January, means that the program is able to source locally grown, long-storing produce with preference given to organic suppliers.
